Build Strength Safely, Improve Function, and Support Lifelong Health
This class introduces the fundamental principles of resistance training and teaches participants how to build strength safely and effectively with individual needs in mind. Students will learn how resistance training supports muscular fitness, bone health, injury prevention, posture, functional movement, independence, and lifelong health.
What the Class Covers
Basic anatomy and movement terminology used in resistance training
Proper exercise technique for major movement patterns, including squats, hinges, pushes, pulls,
lunges, and core exercises
How to use body weight, free weights, bands, and other equipment safely
Key training variables such as sets, repetitions, resistance, tempo, rest periods, and frequency
Warm-up, mobility, cooldown, and recovery strategies
Nutrition to support healthy aging and muscle maintenance
Progressions, modifications, and safety considerations for different fitness levels and biomechanical issues
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the class, participants will be able to demonstrate safe lifting techniques, know how to stay safe in a gym or at home participating in a personal resistance training program, and will be able to apply basic program design principles to build and maintain a resistance training program for life.
Who Should Attend
People over 50, from beginners to individuals returning to exercise, and fitness enthusiasts who want to improve lifting skills and form, and anyone interested in developing a foundation for safe and effective resistance training.
Class Details
When: Mondays & Wednesdays at 8:30 AM (AZ/MST) beginning the week of September 14th, 2026.
Where: Over Zoom, in the comfort of your own home!
Price: $250 for individuals | $499 for duos (couples, friends, family)
